Hyundai Unveils New Windshield that Resembles a TV Screen

We’re not going to lie: the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) makes our jobs a little easier this time of year.

Every January, brands from all industries gather in Las Vegas to show off their latest and greatest tech and basically give consumers a glimpse into the future. This inevitably makes for lots of news to cover.

Case in point: Hyundai MOBIS’s CES 2019 offerings, including its“windshield display technology” with “virtual touch” and “emotion recognition.”

Hyundai MOBIS, the Korean car company’s parts and service arm, will welcome CES attendees into its 4,700-square-foot exhibit and allow them to interact with its new systems.

Its “vision of the car of the future” includes several pieces of tech that are only appropriate for level 4 or 5 autonomous vehicles, or those that don’t require the user to pay any attention to the road.

For example, the new Windshield Display Technology changes the windscreen from transparent during driving mode; to fully blacked-out during auto mode, allowing the driver and passenger to view the navigation system or even entertainment like videos all on the inside of the windshield.

So, one minute you’re cruising along with both hands on the wheel,shoulder-checking before changing lanes and basically driving like we’ve all been doing for decades; and the next you’re reclining the seat back and settling in with a bag of popcorn to stream some YouTube content on a screen that stretches across the entire windshield and the two front passenger windows. How futuristic is that?
